What is a WordCamp

More than 40% of the websites you visit on a daily basis are built with the WordPress open-source software, a platform widely used all over the world and it is rising constantly, especially in Greece. Everytime you come across a WordCamp, anywhere on the planet, the people of local WordPress communities are behind the events.  Similarly, in Greece, the WordPress Greek Community is behind the WordCamp Greece 2021 Online Conference, which dedicated to all aspects around WordPress.

WordCamps are conducted in 120 countries around the world and they explore a variety of topics regarding WordPress based projects, websites, blogs, plugins and much more. Globally,  WordCamps are supported by the WordPress Foundation, the official nonprofit organization with the goal to preserve the openness of WordPress.

WordCamp Mission

WordCamps cover a variety of topics such as design, development, blogging, content, search engine optimization, content managemnt systems, Gutenberg, social media, marketing, startups, eCommerce / shops, and many others. Have a look at the presentations from previous WordCamps to get an idea of what you can expect when you are planning to attend a WordCamp. Truth be told, even for experienced WordCamp visitors, everytime there is something new to explore.

WordCamps are available for anyone who works with WordPress (or just love WordPress), at any level of experience and knowledge, regardless of their sex, race, religion, weight, size, or any other criteria. The conference gathers all the latest developments and skillsets that grow within the WordPress ecosystem and aims to share all the latest news with the community. Furthermore, networking and business development opportunities are well served.

WordCamp Financial Sources

WordPress Foundation is the main financial supporter of WordCamps all over the world. Starting from there, the next major financial source is found among the local Sponsors & Supporters.

For that purpose, WordCamp Greece is giving the opportunity to local brands and companies to support the welfare and sustainability of the Conference by letting them get involved with the WordPress community by offering sponsorship online spots.

We can’t hold our horses till the day WordCamp Greece will open its doors to wellcome the online visitors. Now the Call for Sponsors is open and available to the public. A WordCamp is a golden window of high quality exposure to one of the best tech communities in Greece. Sponsors in WordCamps get a lot of publicity and recognition among their peers and into the WordPress Community, nurturing huge potential business leads.

Could you think of any better reasons for supporting an online conference? Me, neither! You better bookmark their website and grab the opportunity when the call for sponsors opens. WordPress Greek Community has a clean record of financial transparency as you can see with your own eyes in this financial report of WordCamp Athens 2019.

WordPress Ecosystem

WordPress started in 2003 when Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg created a fork of b2/cafelog. The need for an elegant, well-architected personal publishing system was clear even then. Today, WordPress is built on PHP and MySQL, and licensed under the GPLv2. It is also the platform of choice for over 39% of all sites across the web.

The WordPress open source project has evolved in progressive ways over time — supported by skilled, enthusiastic developers, designers, scientists, bloggers, and more. WordPress provides the opportunity for anyone to create and share, from handcrafted personal anecdotes to world-changing movements. People with a limited tech experience can use it “out of the box”, and more tech-savvy folks can customize it in remarkable ways.

WordPress is software designed for everyone, emphasizing accessibility, performance, security, and ease of use. The basic WordPress software is simple and predictable so you can easily get started. It also offers powerful features for growth and success. The WordPress community is welcoming and inclusive. Read more about WordPress here.

Why I Love WordPress

Thanks to WordPress everyone has a chance to success.

Life teaches you that you have to play the game with the cards that you have on your hands. We control nothing, only how we react to what happens. You can only make the best you can with what you have. And WordPress helped me to create new opportunities. Here is my WordPress Story.

WordPress changed my life and gave me back the power to create a new career. – Areti Vassou
