Have you ever looked for the etymology of generosity? It’s the quality of being kind & generous. Also states the fact of being plentiful or large.

The synonyms go a step further with some like: liberality, lavishness, magnanimity, magnanimousness, munificence, open-handedness, free-handedness, bounty, unselfishness, indulgence, prodigality, princeliness,
abundance, plentifulness, copiousness, amplitude, profuseness, richness, lavishness, liberality, munificence, largeness, superabundance, infinity, inexhaustibility and opulence.

The word generosity is derived from the word generous. It has survived through the ages keeping almost its original meaning and is still in use until today. Since the late 16th century we use it exactly with the same meaning.

The original sense was ‘of noble birth’, hence ‘characteristic of noble birth, courageous, magnanimous, not mean’ and came via Old French and from Latin generosus ‘noble, magnanimous’, from genus, gener- ‘stock, race’.

I am Greek and in my language the etymology is more accurate. The word is combined by two other words: Brave + Gifts. Actually it has the deeper meaning of brave giving; as offering with no return.

Generous etymology:

  • showing a readiness to give more of something, especially money, than is strictly necessary or expected.
  • showing kindness towards others
  • larger or more plentiful than is usual or necessary

Be Brave Enough to Be Generous

When you can offer your knowledge or skills, just do it and wait for no return. When you share your knowledge with others, they add their own perspective and a whole new world opens in front of your eyes. The new perspectives make life richer.

When we share our knowledge and skills with other people a positive chain reaction starts with endless possibilities. A cell of trust can create a new cell of trust and gratitude. And from there new cells will create new cells, and new cells will keep generating new cells that can build an environment based on openness, kindness, dignity and freedom.

Never in my life have I regret the hours spend to answer questions or teach some of my skills. When people reach out for help in digital marketing strategy, content marketing, search engine optimization, content creation, social media marketing and digital literacy, I am always available to share my knowledge.

We don’t own knowledge. What we know isn’t not ours to keep. Knowledge is destined to be shared with other people. Show to the person next to you how to fish and they will never get hungry again.

Sharing Knowledge is Caring

Sharing knowledge makes you a better person. When you share what you consider as a premium asset it provides equal opportunities to a better life. By keeping important parts of knowledge hidden we feed the injustice in this world.

Be a kind example of showing the door to a better way of thinking, wherever and as often as you can. We don’t suggest that you should share your professional secrets but there is room to share certain skills.

Sharing your knowledge encourages others to share theirs with you. This will help you to learn new skills.

Protecting other people from the consequences of ignorance is a sign of maturity and kindness. Sharing is caring for the humanity. Be the giver, never the taker!

Next time a colleague ask how you did that last presentation, take 10 minutes of your time and share the process. Believe me, it will come back to you without even expecting anything in return. Strong people want the best for others.

Share the blessing of knowledge and smile. Let it free to improve life for others, too. Goodwill and kindness can work miracles. Use your talents to make others happy and witness how people can thrive, thanks to your support.

Share your knowledge, it is a way to achieve immortality
