Google Docs are Under Attack

Be aware with the new Google Phishing Docs Scam! 

This Wednesday (03 May 2017), a worm started to cause problems around Gmail that trapped users under the impression that a friend or colleague was trying to share a Google Doc. This looked like a classic phishing scam wherein the attacker tries to get all your information by making you to open a doc file. By opening the document, you had to give permission for full access into your account. Next step, was the auto-sent out to all your contacts in your address book.

Google announced that has already disabled the offending accounts (0.1 percent were affected), and that they managed to terminate the worm within an hour. A Google spokesperson also advised users to: “…users who want to review third party apps connected to their account can visit Google Security Checkup.”

It would be safe to make some changes to our passwords and run a test into our Google’s Security Checkup. The sooner the better!

• Turn on 2-Step verification
• Perform a Google Security Checkup
• Report to Google anything suspicious
